Details
Our Radially-Compliant Material Removal Tools use robust pneumatic or electric motors for deburring a variety of materials with a robot. Radially-Compliant Tools are especially well-suited for removal of parting lines or flash from parts. The variety of design options allows them to be used in a multitude of applications like chamfering, finishing, and deburring.
The Radially-Compliant Tool’s pneumatically controlled, articulated design allows the cutting bit to follow the part profile and compensate for surface irregularities, part location, and robot repeatability while maintaining a constant force that can be controlled and adjusted on the fly. This allows high feed rates with uniform quality, no matter how the tool is oriented.
Compliance is facilitated by pneumatic pistons recentering the shaft and provides consistent contact force within the compliance range of motion, even on irregular part patterns. The powerful motors maintain their cutting speed to produce an optimum surface finish. The tools offer up to ± 9mm of compliance. All Radially-Compliant Material Removal Tools boast the ability to use a variety of standard industrial media from tungsten carbide burrs to rotary abrasives and reciprocating files.
Features and Benefits
Designed for removal of flash:
Radially-Compliant Tools are particularly adept at flash removal. These tools also perform edge deburring and removal of parting lines.
Pneumatic or electric motor options:
The radially-compliant family of material removal tools have motors at fixed speeds between 5,600 and 65,000 RPM as well as a variable speed tool offering, the Radially-Compliant Electric Tool that has a range of 60-13,000 RPM. A variety of motor sizes allows you to match the proper Radially-Compliant Tool to your application.
Radial compliance:
Due to passive force control, the radial motion of the tools offers consistent contact force with the work piece. This allows for fast and simple programming of the robot.
Auto Media Changer:
Option to integrate hands-free exchange of media with cost and space effective storage of additional cutting bits.
Flexible mounting options:
Radially-Compliant Tools can be used process-to-part; mounted to a robot and presented to the part, or part-to-process; attached to a fixed point with the part brought to the tool.
Industry standard media:
The collet system allows the user to select from a wide variety of standard industrial media to fit specific deburring needs. High speed tools are ideal for rotary cutting tools while low speed tools are best utilized with abrasives, brushes, and application specific cutting. ATI’s Compliant Reciprocating tool (CRT) also uses industry standard shank sizes to allow for a variety of file types and deburring capabilities.
Minimal chattering and vibration:
The compliance unit supports the tool; providing stiffness for the cutter and allowing motion in response to the part profile. Radial compliance allows the unit to perform automated material removal tasks where other deburring tools have failed.
